What to do when I want to log in to Varma Online Service, but I do not have a Finnish personal identity code?

The use of username and password as an identification option for Varma Online Service will end during autumn 2025. After that, identification for Varma Online Service will be possible using personal banking codes or mobile identification. For bank or mobile identification, the user's personal identity number must be saved in Varma Online Service.

If a user does not have a Finnish personal identity code, they will be able to log in to the service by using the Finnish Authenticator application or a pan-European identification token (eIDAS). Below you will find instructions on how to prepare for the change and how to set up another identification token in advance of the termination of the use of usernames and passwords.

How to log in to Varma Online Service if you do not have a Finnish personal identity code

If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, you can log in to Varma Online Service with

  • the Finnish Authenticator application, or
  • pan-European eIDAS identifiers.

You can use these identification tokens to log in to the employer's service of Varma Online Service when you have access rights for your company.

Please note that you cannot use these identification tokens to log in to the personal customer's services of Varma Online Service. For pension and rehabilitation matters, we are at your service by phone at +358 10 192 100 from Monday to Friday from between 9:00 and 15:00.

How you can activate other identification tokens

See here for instructions on how to start using the Finnish Authenticator application or the pan-European eIDAS identifier.

When can I use the Finnish Authenticator application to log in?

If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code, you can log in to Varma Online Service using the Finnish Authenticator identification service, i.e. the identification service for foreign citizens.

Identification with the application is only intended for persons who do not have a Finnish personal identity code. You can only use the Finnish Authenticator application to log in to the employer's services of Varma Online Service, but not to the private customer's services.

How can I activate the Finnish Authenticator application?

This is how you can activate the Finnish Authenticator application:

1. First, register a Foreigner's Identifier (UID) for yourself.
2. Then verify your identity using the Finnish Authenticator application.

During the first identification process, you will need to take a photo of yourself and your passport or national identity document. If the photo you take and the information on your identity document match, the identification service will confirm your identity.
