What to do when I want to receive the annual letter?

Our pensioners receive an annual letter in Varma Online Service once a year. You can read the annual letter in our online service at the end of January. Pensioners living abroad and legal guardians will receive the letter by post.

Pension payments will continue normally at the turn of the year, even if you have not yet received the annual letter.

The annual letter is a bulletin that states the amount of your pension and the payment details. In the annual letter, you can see

  • the amount of pensions and withholding tax paid in the previous year
  • the index-adjusted amount of pension and withholding tax for the current year
  • pension payment dates.

In our 2025 annual letter, we informed you that we will no longer send annual letters by post to recipients other than pensioners living abroad and legal guardians. All pensioners can read their letters by logging in to Varma Online Service.

The online service is a more secure way to deliver letters than sending by post. Giving up postal delivery is also environmentally friendly.

Pension payments will continue normally at the turn of the year, even if you have not yet received the annual letter.

If you cannot view your annual letter in the online service, see the instructions on requesting annual letter delivery by post.

We will send the annual letter by post to pensioners living abroad and to guardians.

You can log in to our online service with your Finnish online banking credentials or mobile ID and print out the annual letter or save it in PDF format on your device.

However, if you wish to receive the annual letter on paper by post every year, you can request this by calling our telephone service.

  1. Call our service number +358 10 244 1046. The telephone service is available around the clock.
  2. The call is directed to an automatic service and you will hear a recorded message. This service is only for requesting annual letter delivery by post; you will not reach our experts through this number. Listen to the recording and follow the instructions.
  3. When you hear a beep, say your personal identity code. Pronounce the code as clearly as possible, one character (number, letter, dash) at a time. Do not leave any message apart from your personal identity code. The provision of your personal identity code in this service is protected and secure. The personal identity code is all you need to request the annual letter by post, no further information is required. Only provide one personal identity code per call.
  4. You will not receive any separate confirmation of the request being successful.
  5. You will receive the annual letter by post in late January at the earliest.

Once you have requested delivery by post, you will receive the annual letter by post in the following years as well. If you wish to cancel the delivery, please contact our customer service.

Since we offer all our pensioners the opportunity to read the annual letter in Varma Online Service, even those who have requested delivery by post will receive a text message stating that the letter is available in Varma Online Service.

Pensioners living abroad and guardians receive the annual letter by post. The letter also includes a residence report, which must be completed and signed and returned to Varma by 16 March 2026 at the latest. The residence report must be returned to us even if your information has not changed from the previous year. If we do not receive the residence report, we will suspend pension payment until the completed and signed report is submitted to Varma.

You can also confirm your residence report in Varma Online Service if you have Finnish online banking credentials or mobile ID. The residence report can also be a free-form letter sent by post. This letter must contain the pensioner’s name, Finnish personal identity code, address and signature.
