Planning vocational rehabilitation

Once you have received a positive vocational rehabilitation decision, the next step is creating a rehabilitation plan. Your rehabilitation specialist will provide you with support for creating a plan. You can find the contact details of your rehabilitation specialist in the rehabilitation decision.

What is a vocational rehabilitation plan?

A rehabilitation plan means a plan of how your return to work will be supported through vocational rehabilitation. The goal is to create for you a personal plan that supports the recovery and maintenance of your work ability.

The plan must be made before the rehabilitation decision expires, which is in around 10 months.

The starting point for the planning is to use your education & training and work history and take into account the suitability of the planned sector for your state of health. In addition, the planning takes into account your own interests. You can begin the rehabilitation programme when Varma has approved your rehabilitation plan.

Tips for finding alternatives

  • Discuss and brainstorm together with your friends, acquaintances, supervisor or health care provider.
  • Look at job descriptions in job listings or the course descriptions of educational institutions.
  • Contact employers and educational institutions and ask about different professions and tasks.
  • To inspire you, take free career aptitude tests that you can fill in independently online.
  • Use occupational health care’s work ability coaching services if your employer offers the service as part of your health care.

Support of Varma’s rehabilitation partner

If your employment relationship has ended or if you cannot return to suitable employment at your own workplace, we can support your rehabilitation plan by offering you our rehabilitation partners’ guidance services.

Our rehabilitation partners are specialised in providing career and rehabilitation guidance. You will be provided with a personal coach who will help you find tasks and options that suit your state of health. The service starts once you have agreed on the matter with Varma’s rehabilitation specialist.

Submitting the rehabilitation plan

Once your rehabilitation plan is ready, fill in the rehabilitation plan information in the Varma Online Service. The form is available under ‘Vocational rehabilitation’.

The following information is submitted in the rehabilitation plan:

  • the rehabilitation option (work trial, job coaching, education, or support for the self-employed)
  • the rehabilitation organiser (an employer or educational institution)
  • the duration of the vocational rehabilitation (start and end date)
  • the contact person’s details (e.g. a supervisor during a work trial)
  • an explanation of how the plan supports continuing in or returning to working life.

Using this information, we assess whether we can support your plan as vocational rehabilitation.
